Opportunities for the Public to Look Through Telescopes
- University of Maryland Observatory on Metzerott Road open house on 5 and 20 of each month.
- Every Monday that is not a federal holiday the U.S. Naval Observatory, (USNO) in Northwest Washington, D.C. (off Massachusetts Avenue) has a public night, except when the USA government involves the military in warfare. The tour includes orientation on the USNO's mission, viewing of operating atomic clocks, and glimpses through the finest optical telescopes in the National Capital region. - Exploring the Sky is held in the Rock Creek Park near the Nature Center planetarium, in the field just south of the intersection of Military and Glover Roads, N.W. For additional information, call the Nature Center at [202]-895-6070 or Joe Morris (NCA member) [703]-620-0996. This joint National Park Service and NCA program has been held for many years. Exploring the Sky is an informal program that for nearly fifty years has offered monthly opportunities for anyone in the Washington area to see the stars and planets through telescopes from a location within the District of Columbia.
